Nikos Platyrachos

 

Nikos was born in Athens in 1965. Having studied piano and advanced music theory at the National Conservatory of Athens, he pursued composition studies at the music academies of Hannover and Cologne with Hans Werner Henze, as well as postgraduate studies at the Studio for Electronic Music in Cologne.

As an internationally recognized and award winning composer, Nikos has created soundtracks for over 30 European films. Awards include: First Distinction at The Trossingen Film Festival 1991, Federal Cinema Music Award at Filmmusictage Bonn 1995 and Best Original Score at the Drama International Short Film Festival 2013. His music for the cinema has been performed and recorded by renowned European orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Symphony Orchestra, the Cologne Studio Orchestra, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra and many others.

Nikos also composes music for the theater as well as various symphonic works for orchestra and smaller ensembles, which have been performed in Greece and several European cities. Amongst other places, his music has been presented at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall by the Orchestra of Colours, the Italian  orchestra “Divertimento Ensemble”, the National Symphony Orchestra, the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and the Camerata.

His personal discography includes 9 albums internationally released, in collaboration with acclaimed performers such as Claudio Puntin, George Dalaras, Maria Farantouri and many more renowned musicians and singers.

 He has also created music for over 120 commercial films, radio and television spots in Greece and abroad.
